A Podcast Resource Site

The following is part of a NU discussion posted by Mr. Jose Valdez, a Granger Jr High Math Teacher at SUHSD:

"A podcast is a digital audio/video file that can be downloaded from the internet and played back on an MP3

player or computer.”  In the past five years I have used this specific feature through a website called

www.Yourteacher.com .  Students can download the program into their computers and with a password that

I provide students can work with this digital resource from the comfort of their own homes.
The way in which this resource complements my direct instruction is by providing students the opportunity to work on algebra concepts at their own pace at home.  Educators have a pacing calendar that we must follow with fidelity in order to completely cover all the sections that are in the algebra book before the CST’s but with this digital resource tool students can reteach themselves at home and in their own learning pace.  The unique feature that I like the most is that I have the authority to look at the students work and see if the students are really doing what they supposed to each night.  Another aspect that I’m delighted with from Yourteacher.com is that students will have the opportunity to take quizzes directly in the program and if students do not achieve a passing grade on these quizzes the program will automatically not pass the students to the next section of the program.
Finally, I have seen students download videos from yourteacher.com directly into their i-pods.  It is amazing how much technology has evolved just in the past 10 years and now students can be absent do to a doctor appointment and still be able to study their algebra concepts directly from their digital devices.
